Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you teach any striking?

A: No, at this time our primary focus is teaching Gracie (Brazilian) Jiu Jitsu which incorporates Judo and some wrestling.

Q: Do you teach NoGi?

A: We dedicate a full week every month to focus on NoGi training. Announcements will be made prior to a NoGi week.

Q: I want to compete. Do you guys do competitions?

A: We have a schedule planned out at the start of each year on the competitions we plan to do as an academy, but they are not mandatory and will not negatively affect your promotions.

Q: Do I need any prior experience to start?

A: No prior experience is required.

Q: Do I need to be in shape in order to keep up with the class or workout?

A: No. We ask that if it is your first time trying Brazilian that you attend one of our new student classes. Our classes are designed so you can jump right in at any skill level, age or stage in life.

Q: How many times a week can I attend?

A: When you become a member you are welcome to come to all classes available to you during the week as well as on Saturdays for open mat. Please check our schedule for details.

Q: What ages do you teach in the Kid's Class?

A: Our Kid's Class ranges from 7-13 years old. Depending on the age (14+) and maturity level of your child there are opportunities for them to join us in the Adult Class. The key is if your child is comfortable being apart from you (parent) and can comfortably interact with other kids and our instructors and display a level of focus they should be a perfect fit.

Q: Is there any way I can try the class before I sign up?

A: We do offer a 2 week FREE trial for all individuals new to Jiu Jitsu. For anyone who has had prior experience and familiar with Jiu Jitsu, you are welcome to try one of our classes during the week.

Q: What do I need to bring with me to class?

A: We ask that you bring a pair of shorts and a t-shirt or rash guard with you to class. Also, a bottle of water and a pair of flip flops. We can provide you with a gi and belt during your trial class.

Q: Are there any contracts? What if something happens with my schedule (work/school) and I need to cancel?

A: We do not have contracts and will work with you on any changes to your schedule. Notifications to adjust must be made within 10 business days in order for changes to go into effect.

Q: What are your rates?

A: With new promotional options being offered all the time and questions with family rates, the best advice is to call us 909.353.8132.

Q: What kind of equipment will I need and how much does it cost?

A: We do not use any kind of sparring equipment. The only thing you will need is a Jiu Jitsu gi, belt, and academy patches - all of which will be provided to you with the start up fee.

Q: How much do promotions cost?

A: We do not charge for promotions or conduct any kind of testing for the next rank at this time. We believe it is a combination of technical understanding and the ability to apply the knowledge with a level of maturity that leads to promotions. It is a life long process that is not simply about the belt.

Q: I am visiting from another academy and would like to train. Is there a mat fee?

A: Yes. There is a $20 mat fee, paid at the time you train for visiting non-members. No fee for Open Mat.
